Families...So Much to Be Thankful For!

Thanksgiving brings the opportunity to reflect on the things in our lives we are so very thankful for.  As I reflect on what I am most thankful for, I think about my family and how I get to go to school each day with such wonderful teachers, administrators, and students and their families.  I was so glad that I had the chance to see so many of you at Donuts with Dad and Premier Night.  The photos that I was able to capture make me realize just what a wonderful community Norwood is and what AMAZING families we have at Sharpsburg Elementary!  Thanks for letting me interrupt your wonderful conversations and giving me the chance to capture your delightful, smiling faces.  These pictures say it all!  Happy Thanksgiving!

A Crazy Three Day Week!

As usual there is much happening in the 6th grade at Sharpsburg Elementary! We are busy in each of the content area classes. Here is a look at the past week and what we have been doing. We are preparing to write a 5 paragraph essay in language arts. Our focus is the "Three Things we are Most Thankful For..." We will be publishing them next week and they will be ready to share at the table on Thanksgiving Day! Clearly, we have much to be thankful for...

November has arrived!

It is hard to believe just how quickly time has flown with this group of students. We have settled into our routines and the learning is fast and furious. Great learning experiences have already taken place, but we have so much to look forward to through the months of November and December.

A flyer is coming home today regarding our trip to the Aronoff Center on December 1st. The cost for students is $2. Money is due by Wednesday, November 9th. Please have the form signed and money turned in by that date.

Conferences are tonight and Wednesday, November 9th. If you were unable to schedule a conference due to a conflict in your schedule, we will be contacting you for a phone conference. Also, your 6th grader has completed a conference folder with goals they are setting for themself as well as work they are proud of. It is important for students to share these goals, so they feel more accountable. At your request, I can send the conference folder home to be viewed, I would just like it back to we can review it throughout the year.

Lastly, we have made it to the school library. We will have the opportunity to check out books every Thursday. Books should be coming home each night so they can be read for 30 minutes. I need your help in making this happen. We only become better readers when we read!

Just a reminder, there is no school on Tuesday, November 8th or Friday, November 11th.

As always, thanks for all you do to support your child each day!

6th Grade Pumpkin Day 2011

What a HUGE success! We had a blast with the students as they "purchased", weighed, gutted, and carved their pumpkins. Mrs. Burns worked on check-writing, so students now know how to correctly write a check. In learning percentages, students were able to determine the cost of their pumpkin given a set price and with added sales tax. The 6th graders had to figure out the percentage of guts and seeds based on the weight of their pumpkin. Upon completing all of the math, they were able to carve their masterpieces! Take a look at the slideshow to see how clever the students were. What a PERFECT day for PUMPKINS! Happy Halloween!
