Being Scottish and teaching in Scotland, January is a big deal with Burns Night. (A national celebration of our poet Rabbie Burns). I love teaching and singing the Scots language and the kids really love the chance to recite poetry in their local tongue.
Diane,
I always love to share about books with dogs. So many of my students are pet lovers. I try to incorporate as much dog fun as I can when we tackle Love That Dog for a poetry unit mid-March! Happy New Year!
I bet! Best wishes with your 9th graders and new lesson endeavors. You will be awesome!
Awe, thanks, Wendy! I am working on some athlete task cards now to kind of go along with those close reading pages. My boys can' get enough of these athletes. I need to write faster! Happy New Year!
Heather,
How great! I bet the kids love it! Anytime they can connect to real world, grown-up work it seems to be a hit! Happy New Year!

Clair,
Very cool that you are checking in from Scotland! I am going to have to do some research on this poet. I always love finding new authors and poets! Thanks for checking out our blog hop! Best of luck with your fun poetry celebration!

My students just adore interactive notebooks! Who would have thought they could make learning so very fun!
I adore taking the students on field trips! A local university, University of Dayton, does a Math Day from grades 3-8 and it is awesome. The kids get to attend a women's basketball game during the school day and work on a math packet throughout the game that is completely basketball centered. I love getting the kids to a university so they can experience college life for at least a day! It is my favorite trip of the year.
Martin Luther King, Jr. is a great January topic.
We are working on non fiction text features and structures with INB. Thanks!
I love to begin with goal setting for the year.
My Florida preschool class loves our unit on snow! tracietrump40@gmail.com
