Busier by the MINUTE...

It is hard to believe that the first quarter ends next week. One quarter down and three to go! I feel like we were just sweating our brains out and now we are freezing our tails off! You've got to love Ohio weather! We have some really fun experiences coming up for our 6th graders, not just in the school setting, but also the chance to head to the Aronoff Center in Downtown Cincinnati to see a fabulous fable presentation. Information will be coming home in the next two weeks, but a trip that would normally cost each student $12, will only cost each student $1.50. We will be looking for just a few chaperones. If you are interested, please let the 6th grade team know and we will make an accomodation for you to join us!

So Much to See!

Our newsletter is four pages this week because there are so many great things going on in 6th grade. Take a look and see all of the publishing happening in language arts class. We are becoming better typers by the day! I am so proud of how hard the students are working and how much they have grown already in the first quarter. What an exciting thing to see daily!

Another BUSY week...

What a week! We are working on our end of book projects in reading. We are writing narratives and we will be publishing them on the laptops into mini-books. The students are working tremendously hard.

We are in week 3 of our Pro-Ohio testing. Students take assessments on-line and have the data readily available letting them know their success on each weekly assessment. We have covered cause/effect and fact/opinion and author's argument. We are working on summarization of both informational and fiction text for these next two weeks. Ask your 6th grader the key words for summarizing-they should tell you two different strategies!

Our focus in spelling is multisyllabic words. The students have focused on 3, 4, 5, and 6 syllable words. Breaking them into syllables help them both spell and read them correctly.

We continue to be especially busy. Progress reports will be coming home this Friday, October 7th. Please be sure to observe the progress report, sign the recycled envelope, and send it back to school with your 6th grader. Only a few short weeks until the end of the first quarter. Keep your eyes out for information regarding conferences in the first two weeks of November.

As always feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or thoughts. I look forward to seeing you at student-led conferences in a few weeks! Enjoy this wonderful weather!
